G3NBU

I was able to pass the morse test...
- the examining center was in London -and able to use the callsign G3NBU without the /T, and able to use the bands 160meters and up!

I had the receiver---

I just had to construct a transmitter and power supply! We built a crystal controlled CW transmitter on the basis of, already built three times, 7Mhz rig! This is built with with various valves, in a separate chassis or in the housing of a communication receiver!

I had a Long Wire Aerial down the garden, and an efficient Earth - consisting of three long stakes driven in the ground! Damp Ground!

The G1 resistor is 120K,
The Capacitor beween the Anode and the Tank is 1500PF -
as far as I can remember!

I had a Heatkit two metre "luncheon box," which I was mobile!
Incidentally, we realised that the "luncheon box" was not quite the receiver to use on the 2m band, and we used a 2m convertor on the communications receiver. We even converted the crystal oscillator to a phase modulator in the later days....

I had, anyway, my trusty Heathkit, constructed with care the previous winter.

I remained active in the SSB mode until I left Britain permanenlty at Christmas 1975.

NEXT!
